Let’s say you’re planning… oh….a Super Bowl Party. You have a number of guests and are afraid that perhaps there isn’t enough TV viewing space or beer drinking space. (Grown-up problems… sigh…) That’s what we at Alilcurious.com were up against. We had a small budget to create a beer garden (which went toward a canopy and an outdoor heater) but re-used a lot of materials from around the house… as well as scavenging free industrial left overs. Here’s how we did it:
We have a good sized deck just off of our living room that provided a great platform, so we purchased this 15’x10′ canopy and had some friends help us set it up. (It’s a great price for a little pop-up… but it’s a monster to assemble… partially because the instructions were written by a sadist.)
We found a few wooden cable spools a local company was getting rid of… (they were much nicer than the original moldy ones we found on a set of deserted train tracks…) These spools made the perfect size for tables! We used our dining room chairs for the seating, and thrift store Mason jars for candle holders.
We needed a narrow bar to maximize the limited amount of space we had. What we ended up doing was stacking our 4 picnic table benches on top of each other. We used our old planter containers and two galvanized tubs as beverage bins.
The string of flags ($5 a color) and football toss game were both eBay scores!
If you’ve ever created your own version of a backyard beer garden, we’d love to see it!
